Puck Headlines: Ribeiro staying in Dallas; NHLPA Twitter goof

Here are your Puck Headlines: a glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

Dallas Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk finally told center Mike Ribeiro(notes) that the plan is for him to stay with the team all season, which totally ruins the fun we were all having trading him 29 different ways this summer. This happy news will no doubt make the entire Dallas sports fan nation immediately and simultaneously forget about last night's loss in Washington to the Redskins. Or not. [ESPN Dallas]

• Marc Crawford to Mike Heika, on the 2010-11 Dallas Stars: "I think there is a freshness to our room right now." Says the coaching retread. We're assuming someone simply used Febreze on Turco's locker stall. [Dallas Stars Blog]

• Restricted free agent Niclas Bergfors(notes) and the Atlanta Thrashers ended a lengthy contract negotiation this summer with a one-year contract worth $900,000. You'll remember Bergfors as the rookie who came over in the Kovalchuk trade, and then nearly outscored him in goals. [AJC]

• Sort of hockey related, but not directly: CNBC's Darren Rovell on the death of season tickets. [CNBC]

• The Montreal Canadiens will name a new captain "soon." Brian Gionta(notes) leads the short list. [CBC Sports]

• Remember that flare-up between Damien Cox and Ted Leonsis? NHL Hot Stove covered it here; and Leonsis took out the big hammer in response.

• Carrie Underwood on life with Mike Fisher(notes) of the Ottawa Senators: "I love going to games, cheering for my man ... When I come home, I'm accused of picking up the [Canadian] accent." Sadly, punishable by death in Nashville. [RTT]

• Some biting ridicule of NHL rules changes: "Forget the fact that the rule forbids 'attempting to accidentally dislodge the goal.' Focus on the fact that 'attempts to stop the ... shot by ... dislodging the goal' means both/either that the goalie actually dislodged the goal and/or he only attempted to dislodge the goal." [Jewels From The Crown]

• Via Raw Charge, it occurs to us that the Tampa Bay Lightning 2010-11 slogan "All In" would have probably been impossible had the previous coach stayed on for another season, given his history. [Raw Charge]

• Mike Brophy firmly plants his rump on the Edmonton Oilers bandwagon: "I'd go as far as saying the Oilers might be one of the most interesting and exciting teams to follow this season. The Oilers, who boast a passionate fan base, but who have not made the playoffs in five of the past six seasons, will welcome some terrifically-talented young men into the fold." [Sportsnet]

• Ten Tommy Wingels facts, about the San Jose Sharks rookie: "Tommy always brings his Gameboy on road trips, along with his stuffed animal Snuggles and a copy of the newest Ranger Rick magazine." [Fear The Fin]

Buffalo Sabres captain Craig Rivet(notes) should be healed up from shoulder surgery for opening day. [Sabres]

Jiri Hudler(notes) is happy to be back with the Detroit Red Wings will most likely skate with Mike Modano(notes) and Dan Cleary. [Red Wings]

• Y! Sports' Nicholas J. Cotsonika chats with Steve Yzerman about building the Tampa Bay Lightning this summer, and gets some glowing reviews of Stevie Y's work from his peers. As we've written before: Whatever they're paying Yzerman they're getting back tenfold in good PR before a single game's been played this season. [Y! Sports]

• Red Wings star Henrik Zetterberg(notes) on a European Super Hockey League to challenge the KHL: Not a fan. [Snapshots]

• This is a since-deleted tweet from the NHLPA over the weekend, which could have been more unintentionally hilarious given the players' near-approval of Donald Fehr as their new hatchet man. [Via Puck Buddy Joe]

• Great piece by Bruce Dowbriggin about Fehr, the NHLPA and what his past can tell us about hockey's future. [Globe & Mail]

• It's possible the NHLPA traded Ian Penny to baseball for Fehr. But there's gotta be some future considerations going to MLBPA too, right? Like the rights to Paul Kelly's investigation findings or something? [THN]

New York Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto(notes) was wearing a clear visor over his entire face at a skate, after having nose surgery to repair cartilage that was hindering his breathing. Uh-huh... that's exactly how Michael Jackson got started, too. [NY Daily News]

• Yikes: Vancouver Canucks defensive prospect nearly killed in a car accident. [Province]

Inside XM Radio's special look at the Washington Capitals' 2009-10 season, and the event they held in DC to celebrate the "Hockey Diaries." [OFB]

• After some hip discomfort, Nazem Kadri(notes) is expected back in a Toronto Maple Leafs uniform when they wrap up their rookie tournament on Tuesday night in London, Ont. [CBC Sports]

• OK, last call: Bill Meltzer's take on Dan Ellis(notes) gate. [Versus]

• Finally, stick with this video if you're both an NHL 11 fan and an NHL 94 nostalgist. [From Puck Buddy Richard H.]
